Upward Spiral 1471 is emerging as a key player in the rehabilitation of historic mine sites, combining tailings processing, water treatment, and logistics support to transform environmental liabilities into productive assets.

During a media engagement at its East Rand facility in Gauteng on March 12, the company outlined its integrated approach across three divisions: mining, water treatment, and logistics. CEO Dumisane Mazibuko described the initiative as a strategic response to South Africa’s growing emphasis on sustainability in the mining sector.
“As South Africa’s mining industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, rehabilitation, and the reprocessing of historic mine dumps, Upward Spiral 1471 identified an opportunity to apply its engineering capability to responsible resource recovery,” Mazibuko said.
He emphasised that the company’s growth is driven by reinvestment and technical expertise rather than institutional or public funding.
